Nautilus

14 x 11
Enamel on Canvas
Original: $275
Reproductions Available

Last October at Kent Youth’s Holiday Galleria show in Chestertown, Maryland I met Sherry Sonntag-Whorl of Classic Glass Studios and bought three of her wonderful stained glass works for my sunroom, one of which contains a nautilus shell. So I started wondering what the actual nautilus creature looks like. Once I did some research I was thrilled! I think they are pretty kool creatures with their dangling tentacles and big, puffy eyes peeking out from under their hooded shells. Viola! Here is my interpretation.

Crab No.3

12 x 9
Enamel on Canvas
Original: $200
Reproductions Available

I’ll never tire of painting Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, an icon of the area.  Just wish it were easier to repopulate the crabs in the Bay as overfishing and pollution have severely diminished their numbers.

Triple Crab - Jimmy, Sally, Sook

Each 7 x 5
Watercolor
Reproductions Available

“Triple Crab” is actually three different paintings which I have matted into one framed composition. There is “Jimmy” – a male crab in the center, “Sally” – an immature female on the right, and “Sook” – a mature female crab on the left. I have sold some of the individual paintings but also enjoy the combination of the three in one composition. What do you think?

This watercolor is a Maryland blue crab, many of whom wander into my crab pots and become our dinner 🙂  They may not be very pretty but they sure are tasty, especially with the obligatory Old Bay seasoning!

Rockfish

Reproductions Available

This oil painting of a rockfish was done as a request for my husband. The original is quite long and is mounted in our kitchen between the windows over the sink and the skylight. Turns out I can paint fish — I had my doubts going in. My husband still has his doubts as he was expecting a realistic representation of a rockfish! Silly hubby…

After my son’s “Manly Mayhem Regatta” where grown men ply themselves with pancakes then squeeze into little boats and proceed to ram each other into concession in order to win ridiculously cheap trinkets as “awards,” the kayaks, paddles and other flotsam and jetsam are strewn across the yard…A definite painting opportunity!

Sails

Oil on Canvas
Original: $675
Reproductions Available

When we went sailing in San Diego Bay with my son, I looked up and saw the most exhilarating site – full sails 🙂 What a great time we had that day. So much fun, in fact, that we came home and dusted off the sail boat in our yard and repaired its sails so we could enjoy sailing on the Chesapeake.

Shells

A day at the ocean beach is remembered in this small painting. I am always saddened when the beautifully colorful shells dry out and their colors turn to shades of tan. But the patterns still remain as shown here.
