One summer my youngest son and his two oldest boys were here visiting for a week. What fun we had! Among the new experiences for my grandsons was the fun of crabbing – both off the end of the pier and with my two crab pots. The boys couldn’t get enough of pulling the pots up to see if I had caught any crabs or if the pots needed to be rebaited. When one, lone crab finally wandered into the pot, the boys were so excited 🙂 Here’s a gouache watercolor commemorating that moment.

I’ll never tire of painting Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, an icon of the area. Just wish it were easier to repopulate the crabs in the Bay as overfishing and pollution have severely diminished their numbers.

When we were visiting my in-laws in Florida, we were standing on a dock watching fishermen clean their catch. The pelicans were very interested in any scraps that might be left unattended. This one bird landed just in front of the dock, turned to look at me as if to say, “So, what’s happening?”
